Q: What is in store for Georgetown Prep?\

A: In the fall of 2006, Georgetown Prep will open a new $36 million athletic facility that will house an indoor track, four intramural basketball courts, an 11-lane swimming pool, a fitness center, wrestling, and new locker rooms. This will be followed by converting the present field house to a brand-new, state-of-the-art library, which will open in 2007. We have already completed the construction on new roads and athletic fields.

 

Q: Are teachers available when I need them?

A: All teachers are available after school for 45 minutes before sports practices and clubs begin. Each faculty member has about six student advisees with whom he meets daily before school. The average faculty member has a master's degree and 18 years experience at Prep. The average class size is 16 and the average teacher only teaches 4 periods per day.

 

Q: Where do the students come from?

A: With an incoming class of about 100 freshman, students arrive from more the 65 differents schools, as well as various foreign countries, such as Germany, England, Japan, and Vietnam.

 

Q: What role does religion play at Georgetown Prep?

A: Georgetown Prep is a catholic school, and spiritual development is central to our mission. While all students take religion classes throughout the year, it is not required that students subscribe to the Catholic faith. In fact, nearly one-quarter of our students are not Catholic. At Georgetown Prep, we respect the religious beliefs of all of our students.

 

Q: Are Georgetown Prep's sports teams any good?

A: Our football, golf, lacrosse, basketball, cross country and swimming are consistently among the best in the Washington area.

 

Q: What are my chances of making the team?

A: Most of our teams do not have cuts, so even those with little experience have an opportunity to play. There are many sports that are available to freshman, including, soccer, golf, basketball, and football, which nearly half the freshman class plays. With so many sports available, the only difficult choice you face is deciding which are right for you.

 

Q: What is the scenery like?

A: Georgetown Prep is situated on a beautiful campus with more than 90 acres in suburban Maryland. New athletic and learning facilities fit in with beautiful tress and expansive lawns. On the front of our property you will also find a nine-hole golf course.

 

Q: I'm thinking about boarding, but what is there to do on the weekend?

A: Weekend activities are planned and provided for by Georgetown Prep. On any given weekend, you might be attending a college or pro sporting event, eating at a fine restaurant, watching a concert or play, hanging out at a school dance, or participating in an outdoor activity such as camping, rock climbing, or playing paintball.

 

Q: How far is Georgetown Prep from the famous Washington, D.C. landmarks?

A: Georgetown Prep is located 11 miles from the White House and the center of the nation's capital, but only 5 miles to the Washington, DC line with it's many restaurants, shops and cultural exhibits. Students have easy access to the city's subway system, known as the "Metro." All of Washington's most famous landmarks are only a short ride away.

 

Q: What are the advantages of living on campus?

A: While living on campus, you are constantly surrounded by your friends and have easy access to our new athletic facility, learning center, as well as your teachers. Perhaps the biggest bonus is that you get to sleep later, as you are always on campus and only a short walk away from class. Research also shows that living on campus lets you spend more time on homework, become more motivated, provide more opportunity for leadership, and become more prepared for college.

 

Q: How many students live at Prep?

A: 100 students live on campus; some from as far as Texas, Florida, and California, along with others from nearby Baltimore and Northern Virginia. Not to mention, 11% of our student body comes from outside the United States.

 

Q: Are there any girls?

A: Georgetown Prep is an all-boys school, but throughout the year, we host dances and other social events attended by girls from nearby schools. These girls' schools also hold events throughout the year that students from Prep are invited to attend. Also, there are various extracurricular activities sponsored jointly with local girls' schools, some as close as across the street.

 

Q: How is the food at Georgetown Prep?

A: At Georgetown Prep, all students are provided with healthy and delicious meals from our cafeteria which features a daily hot item, as well as the soup, salad, and sandwich bar.

 

Q: Is Georgetown Prep wired?

A: Georgetown Prep has five computer labs with the latest speed internet connections. All classrooms are wired for the internet and some of building are wired for wireless internet if you choose to use a laptop. Technology is also present in the classroom, each equipped with Smart Boards (dry erase boards which are integrated with computers), as well as some courses that are computer-based, such as an AP English Composition class that is entirely paperless?
