Places Available
- Currently
there are no places available.
For 2005-2006 we have enrolled 80 freshman day students and 20 freshman boarding students, along with a
waiting pool of ten students. A limited number of transfer boarding
students will be accepted into the tenth and eleventh grades. No
transfer day places are anticipated.
Hoya for a Day
In our experience, the boys who
do well at Prep are the ones who are able to get a sense that the
school has the right environment to bring out their talents. The best
way to do that is to visit during a regular class day, and if you want
to apply to the resident school, spend the night, or a weekend.
Schedule a visit by clicking on the button, "Schedule Hoya for a
Day," on the main admissions page of this Web site.
Steps in the
Application Process
To apply to Prep, complete an
application online (use the "Apply Now!" link to the right). A $50
online application fee ($100 for paper and $100 for international
students) must accompany the application. This can be mailed to the
admissions office separately. A MasterCard or Visa
number with expiration date can be indicated at the end of the essay
if this is more convenient. In making our decision, the most important
factors are:
-
Your grades (accepted students are usually B+ and
higher)
-
Your
recommendations (two from teachers, and a third from
someone who knows you outside of school - download or print Teacher Recommendation Form )
-
The results of your Secondary School
Admissions Test (SSAT) (accepted students are usually above
the 90th % nationally)
The last step is to return to Prep for an
interview. It is the family's responsibility to schedule an interview.
Simply click on the "schedule interview" button on the main
admissions page to do this. These interviews are conducted by Mr. Horsey or Mr.
Hoffman between 9:00 A.M. and
3:00 P.M. on weekdays. It is not possible to request a specific
interviewer. This is an important part of the application process, and
it will help you to become better acquainted with the school. If you
apply by January 15, you can expect an answer on March 1. Applications
received after January 15th are accepted on a space-available basis.
Admissions Timetable: September 1 - March 1
-
Prospective day students are invited to
spend a whole school day during the months of
September-December. Prospective resident students are welcome to stay
overnight or sample the weekend activities. Prior arrangements are
necessary by making an appointment on the main admissions page of
this website. Simply click on the button "schedule Hoya for a
Day".
-
Take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT),
which is administered in November, December, and January. See our
link to the SSAT web-page for registration information on
the the main admissions page.
-
Have the
student's current school submit a transcript which includes course
grades from the previous year and the first half of the present year
plus any standardized test scores. ( Transcript
Request Form
)
-
Have the "Student Recommendation"
forms ( Teacher Recommendation Form
provided by Prep) completed by current teachers who know
the student well, and arrange to have a personal letter of
recommendation sent by someone who knows the student in a
nonacademic capacity.
-
Have an interview with a member of our
admissions
staff. At least one parent or guardian should attend the
interview. If an interview is impossible, the parents should
notify the Director of Admissions. It is the family's
responsibility to make arrangements for the interview. To schedule
an interview simply click on the button, "schedule admissions
interview" on the main admissions page of this website.

scheduling an interview) -
