Achieving the Right Fit

Achieving the Right Fit

STUDENTS MUST “KNOW THYSELF”!

HOW DO THE COLLEGES EVALUATE CANDIDATES?

High School Record = Transcript

What does a student’s course load say about him?

All years count equally in calculation of G.P.A.

How the G.P.A. is calculated may depend on the college or program.

Trends are important.

Juniors will be given their transcripts in Religion classes next week.  A copy will be mailed home at the end the summer with a six-semester G.P.A

Standardized Test Scores (SAT I, SAT II and/or ACT)

Most Prep students will take the SAT twice and many will take four or more SAT IIs over the course of several years.

Juniors should have at least one round of SAT I and SAT IIs completed by the end of junior year.

All SAT Is are reported to the colleges; the colleges will consider the highest individual score for the verbal and math (not necessarily achieved at the same test date).

Students should remember to choose SCORE CHOICE on SAT IIs; this holds the scores until the student chooses when and to whom they want a particular score released.

More students are considering the advantages of taking the ACT, a test that has English, math, science and history components.

Non-native English speakers should take the TOEFL.
