Georgetown Preparatory School Vietnam Trip 1999
|
We have had some problems here specialy with the photos. I hope
to find out about this tomorrow.
About the trip: We landed in Bangkok last night and had a fantastic
time. We ate and ate great food. This morning we toured an elaborate Buddhist
temple and even participated in some of the customs there. We all felt a
sense of peace.

It was an inspired way to kick off this journey. Then we went to a huge
open market, full of every kind of fish and spice you can imagine. We saw
families living in tiny spaces (very happily, judging from the smiles on
their faces) within this pungent market. Thailand, by the way, bills
itself as "The Land of Smile" and I can see why: warm sunny weather, lush
landscape, wasn't ever colonized like the other southeast Asian countries,
hundreds of wats (those lovinglydecorated temples) for meditating, incense
burning to keep out those imperialist devils.
|
Mid-afternoon we got to Saigon. You can still feel The War, not so much by
rusting remnants (which are around) but by the soldiers, beggars .........
More tomorrow. The night clerk at the hotel has to leave.
