Skip Woods:

Mr Mohan, Mr Dang I am sorry that I inconvienced the group. Chris and I wanted a close look at the rice paddies. We stood on the little mud pad's canning the sea of the green in absulute fascination. We talked for a few minutes about the war and tried to imagine the beauty of Vietnam scarred by the destruction of war. I came on this trip to try to achieve an understanding of what life is like in a third world country. That was my original intention, though i can honestly say i have already learned more than any textbook, documentary, or movie can teach. I cam here expecting shock, culture shock. I am shocked because I have seen more happiness and content simplicity in Vietnam than I see in the States. I am shocked because the Vietnamese are poor and yet they seem to value the important things in life: family, love, and happiness. I saw extreme poverty on my walk today, and I also saw throngs of giggling children shouting "hallo". I had a wonderful experince today, I am sorry it costs the group time, concern. thank you. (This letter was composed on one afternoon in the Delta where Elliot and Chris Day decided to take a walk without letting Mr. Dang and Mr. Mohan know).

Mr.Dang: we finally got back to the Sofitel (home sweet home) after 4 days in Phan Thiet, Mui Ne, Ca Na beach and Da Lat. The beaches in Mui Ne and Ca na are absolutely beautiful. We visited the sand dunes and went swimming at Ca na Beach where we stopped for lunch while Mr. Mohan took a small group hiking. Da lat was not what we expected although Chris Day loved the place. This moring, we went to the last emperor's palace (Bao Dai) and headed to saigon as soon as possible. tomorrow is a rest day. we all send our love to everyone in the States.
