Georgetown Preparatory School Vietnam Trip 1999
DAY TWO
|
We finally arrived in HoChiMinh City yesterday afternoon after a short
but
fantastic stay in Bangkok Thailand. Everyone was excited and anxious to
see the city that was not available to many American during the Vietnam
war. It was hot and humid, the tour guide gave us a brief history about
the city. 30 minutes later, we arrived at the magnificent Sofitel Plaza,
located on the Le Duan blvd where in 1975 the communist tanks
crushed the
Presidential Palace's gate.
|
 |
That afternoon, we went to a salon parlor where everyone had either a
massage or hair cut at a fraction what you normally pay in the
States
(100,000 dong = $7.00). After 2 hours at the salon, we had dinner at Thanh
Thuy Restaurant on Ngo Duc Ke Street. The restaurant was
small but very
charming with the french colonial twist.

March 24:
We are going to have breakfast at the Sofitel and later this morning, we are going to
visit the old presidential palace where Thieu and Ky resided during the war. This
will be a great experience to see the place where the
war was controlled. Well, things are looking good on
the side of the earth. We
feel good, eat well, see many historical places, learning many things that are mostly
forgotten.
see
you soon,
PS: everyone here wants to say hello to their love ones in the States.
