Generosity
G
enerosity is at the core of Georgetown Prep's Freshman Service Program. Freshmen demonstrate their generosity through enthusiasm during their service at SHARE and by showing responsibility in the completion of all aspects of the service experience.Related to this, fifty points of his Religion grade (the equivalent of a test grade) comes from successful completion of the service project. Failure to complete the project will result in a failure for this test grade.
The following guidelines are designed to assist freshmen in the timely and responsible completion of the service project.
Students should be at Prep no later than 6:30 a.m. on the morning they are scheduled to work. If a student fails to show up (or show up on time) and has not been previously excused by the Service Project Director or has no legitimate excuse, he must contact the Christian Service Director to set up another project on the first day after his project was scheduled. The Director reserves the right to reschedule the students' project at SHARE or at another comparable placement based on the availability of service opportunities.
If a student knows that he cannot fulfill his service requirement on the scheduled date, he is responsible for informing the Christian Service Director well in advance. It is his obligation to reschedule his service project by either switching dates with another student and informing the Service Director, or by setting up an alternative project that is agreed to by the Service Director.
SHARE relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers like Georgetown Prep students. Moreover, the Freshman Service Program is based on team effort. A lack of responsibility detracts from the efforts of SHARE and fellow students who have made the sacrifice to assist, in some small way, the hungry and homeless of the metropolitan area.
A focus of Prep's service program is the responsible use of our students' gifts on behalf of those in need. Fidelity to one's service project commitment is demonstrated by showing up on time or rescheduling in advance if absolutely necessary. These guidelines are designed to encourage this generosity of spirit.
